4.0 out of 5 stars Great bed, but directions need clarification, February 13, 2010

This bunk bed is nice and sturdy. We wanted a slim metal bunk bed for our two sons, ages 5 and 8.5, and this fit the bill. We received it fairly quickly.

The pieces are neatly marked and assembly wasn't too difficult. Assembly took approximately two hours, if we don't count the hour we had to spend fixing where we messed up. The instructions do no indicate that the side where you will be attaching the ladder needs to be facing a certain direction or it won't work.

This wouldn't have been a huge issue if it weren't for the fact that you have to assemble the slats into the bottom of each bed. Each bed has 22 slats. Each of those slats has 2 ends, and in each of those end you have to pop a plastic piece to wedge it into place securely... which means popping in a total of 88 pieces that don't want to fit in. I recommend having a flat-ended metal rod to push them in, because you will hurt your fingers to do it manually.

So when we messed up,...Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars ASSEMBLER BEWARE!!!!!, June 26, 2010

We've had the bed for about a month now and the kids love it. It's sturdier than I'd expected and there is plenty of room between bunks. HOWEVER, the assembly instructions for the bed are missing some VITAL information.

One of the cross bars that make up the long side of the top bunk (cross bar H for those who may actually purchase and assemble) has five large holes on one side, and five large holes and two small holes on the other. In Step 3 of the instructions, you are instructed to connect the end supports of the bed with the cross bars. What you are NOT told is that upper cross bar H MUST be connected with the seven-hole side facing DOWN. Otherwise, you will not be able to connect the ladder (which you will not discover until you get to Step 6!) This important detail is not articulated or illustrated AT ALL in the instructions. By the time I realized the mistake I had been misled to make, I would have had to disassemble the entire top bunk in order to get the...Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy, affordable and tall enough you can sit on the bottom, June 24, 2010

This review is from: Walker Edison Twin-Over-Twin Bunk Bed, Black (Kitchen)
Overall, I was pleased with this bed. Putting it together went really well--except for popping in the little plastic locks(my fingers will never be the same), and the part when I went to screw in the ladder, and realized one of the holes was only drilled on one side of the rail. Luckily I own a drill, and a ridiculous number of drill bits to go with it--so rather than taking out all those hellish little plastic pieces(which wouldn't have been there if I'd waited and done it in step 7 instead of before), I drilled a new hole--worked great:)

There were a few reasons I chose this bed--first the price, you can't beat $149(I should have waited two days and saved a couple dollars), the fact you can separate them out into two beds, and there's actually space to sit up on the bottom bunk. I can't stand bunk beds you can't sit up in.

The bed is sturdy--and even though it took me a long, long, time to set up(in fairness I'm a slow builder), it seems like it can...Read more
